So, in case you're wondering why we haven't been updating this site much lately ... it's because we're in the midst of recording our very first album!! Completely independent!! It is being locally recorded in the highly acclaimed Junction Road Studios on Cortes Island. Once we get this milestone under our belt, we'll be back doing shows and we'll let you all know when and where! In the meantime, Happy New Year!!

Well, we just finished our first "continental tour" ... what a riot!!! We boogied off Cortes on Friday morning (first boat) and headed down to Robert's Creek (Gibson's Landing area) just north of Vancouver. We played a fun set after "Beach House" to a lively audience who danced up a storm for us ... then back for a little after party at the mysterious Warehouse ... fun fun ... then another early start the next morning. A big shout out to Beach House for organizing that event and making up the fun posters, etc. Thanks to Suzie for putting up with us, I mean, putting us up ... if you're ever in Gibson's, I'd HIGHLY recommend Suzie's Backpacker's Hostel called Wynken, Blynken and Nod ... it's on the water and easy to get to ... it's clean and bright and lovely ... get there!!! The next day, we drove north to Powell River to play the Sunshine Music Festival on Saturday ... took a spectacular ferry to Saltery Bay and then to the festival. We were treated so wonderfully there too and I'd like to thank Anne for the incredible food and Don and Paul for the invitation and all the rest. Great sound ... wonderful venue!!! We played after a guy named Matt Anderson ... the most inspired guitar playing I've ever seen with the vox to boot!!! He made it all look so effortless while he simply whipped in this harmonic with that one and continued to keep time and sing so soulfully and rich ... what a highlight!! If you ever get the chance to take this guy in, please do ... you won't regret it. After the festival, there was Simon & Katie's wedding ... finally getting the P.A. System together after a bit of confusion and misunderstandings, we ripped through 3 lively sets of AGB AllStars originals and a few covers. The crowd danced and danced with huge smiles on their faces. It was a sight to be seen. Thanks to all who helped get that wedding gig off the ground and a special thank you to Milan for working the wedding crowd for 3 microphones at various locations complete with patch cords and makeshift stands. Thanks to Mike Jean and Robbie Driedigger ... and to Axel, Francesca and Marthe ... for the 'Cortesian' representation ... the whole experience was somewhat surreal and very fine. Garnette, our drum queen, finished off the last set for the weekend begging for more, which, to my mind, is always a good sign. Thanks Garnette, Amber, Michelle and Charlotte for keeping an easy friendship full of love and music, complete with perspective and joy. We made it!!! When are we gonna do it again? Oh yah, this Saturday ... yee haa woo hoo ... see ya at practice Tuesday, Love Love and much laughter, Liesa

Hey y'all!!! We've been gigging and having a blast!!! After our Read Island gig with Choda Lightning and our Canada Day extravaganza with Les Maudits, we got ourselves all ready for the 5th Annual Artsfest which was as much fun as the posters promised. Not even Charlotte's bout of extreme heat stroke could stop us ... we rocked the place and had the crowd feeling as good as we did in no time. That wicked steel drum is so infectious. We dressed ourselves as pirates which seemed to fit the mood well, complete with eye patch, kerchief and revolvers!! Garnette kicked it hard and the rest of us were along for the ride. A big shout out to our kingpin, Milan. He stops at nothing to get this festival tops and it is ... while maintaining the whole event on donations and love ... Now we're onto other ventures!! We are off to Robert's Creek and then the 25th Annual Sunshine Music Festival ... September 1st and 2nd ... I'll post something in a bit with more information. This should proove to be a huge thrill and an exciting show. We're ready and grateful for the opportunity to take our music off to other venues. We always love to see familiar faces in the crowd ... if you are at all able to come out, please make it happen. Let's bring the love and the riot!! Much love, AGB

Meet 5 inspired Mammas who have found a love for music together. The AGB was formed in the Fall of 2002, when there were many jam parties happening on Cortes Island. At one particular jam, all of the women were hanging around the fringes of the music, with the desire to get involved, but with no words to sing and no experience playing any instruments, we all ended up on the back porch. One gal said, “Man, we should start an all girl band!”, “Yeah, I always wanted to play the bass!” said another. One week later we had rented a space, rounded up our dream instruments and were off! We played our first live performance one month later with four rough songs! It was a blast! We now have over 30 songs to our repertoire, many of them originals, and can fill a solid 3 hours with lively dance music. We play a unique blend of genres, including ska, hip-hop, reggae, calypso, folk, disco and a little hard metal. While only having played together for three years, we have managed to pack in an average of 15 gigs a year! Consistently, our fan base seems to be growing right along with our fun level! The AGB has played such gigs as the 2003 Power Of Hope fundraiser, the 2003 production of the Vagina Monologues, the 2003, 2004, 2005 Cortes Island Arts & Music Festival, the Waverly Hotel in Cumberland, the Heriot Bay Inn on Quadra Island, Raise the Roof on Read Island and many more. We look forward to seeing you out there. Be prepared to DANCE !!!

Liesa, Garnette, Michelle, Charlotte, Amber

Charlotte plays guitar, Michelle on steel drum, Garnette on kit, Amber's our bass player, and Liesa is our singer.

The AGB were recently asked to play a show to raise some funds for Brenda Hanson to head off to Paris, France. This was truly an honour for us all. We stood up on stage to open our set with Strong Woman Song, a native Cree chant which set the stage for our performance. It was great to see you all dancing your asses off! What fun! Thanks Cortes!
