Meet 5 inspired Mammas who have found a love for music together. The AGB was formed in the Fall of 2002, when there were many jam parties happening on Cortes Island. At one particular jam, all of the women were hanging around the fringes of the music, with the desire to get involved, but with no words to sing and no experience playing any instruments, we all ended up on the back porch. One gal said, “Man, we should start an all girl band!”, “Yeah, I always wanted to play the bass!” said another. One week later we had rented a space, rounded up our dream instruments and were off! We played our first live performance one month later with four rough songs! It was a blast! We now have over 30 songs to our repertoire, many of them originals, and can fill a solid 3 hours with lively dance music.
We play a unique blend of genres, including ska, hip-hop, reggae, calypso, folk, disco and a little hard metal. While only having played together for three years, we have managed to pack in an average of 15 gigs a year! Consistently, our fan base seems to be growing right along with our fun level!
The AGB has played such gigs as the 2003 Power Of Hope fundraiser, the 2003 production of the Vagina Monologues, the 2003, 2004, 2005 Cortes Island Arts & Music Festival, the Waverly Hotel in Cumberland, the Heriot Bay Inn on Quadra Island, Raise the Roof on Read Island and many more. We look forward to seeing you out there. Be prepared to DANCE !!!
